Exercise . . .oh Joy!

Image
Dave and I finished the Advocare 24 day challenge at the end of August and he lost around 20 pounds and I lost around 7-8 pounds. The last 2 weeks of the challenge I ran 5-6 times a week. It was great but soon after the challenge ended I got sick. I did run a mile two different days during my sickness and it just about killed me. It was tough to get back into exercise after I was feeling well enough to do it. So. . .running. . .I am kind of quitting for now. I have never thoroughly enjoyed running and rarely had a great run that made me want to do it again the next day. My endurance was not increasing and the discouragement was increasing. So now what? Well, I found a great video that is called 10 minute Solutions Carb Burner. It gives me 5 different 10 minute workouts that are pretty awesome. I am up to doing 4 in a row which is 40 minutes of workout with a high heart rate. The great thing is that my endurance is much greater then when I would run. I can exercise much longer stretches...

Running Diary Part 5

I weighed myself a few days ago and I weighed the most I ever have when NOT pregnant since I got married. The past couple of weeks I have been eating a lot of eggs and veggies and trying to snack on healthier stuff. Within the past 6 days I have run 5 times, one mile each day. I weighed myself this evening and I am down 8 pounds since my last weigh in! Not sure if it's a fluke, we shall see. But now I am only 8 pounds away from my lowest weight since married which, crazy as it may seem, happened the summer I got pregnant with my second. Dave and I are ordering the Advocare 24 day Challenge kits and I expect that we should be starting them in the next week and a half. The first 10 days is a cleanse and the last half is the "Max Phase" which gives your body the best tools it needs to achieve your weight loss goals. Our friends did it and each lost about 10 pounds in those 24 days. I have a friend doing it now and in her first 3 days she's already down 9. Now, I know I ...

New year and TOTALLY new Motivation! I found a good 10k training plan and I've been sticking with it, which I am very proud of! :-) Tomorrow ends my second week. The first week began with 1.5 mile runs and they just about killed me. Today I finished my 2.5 mile run under 12 minute miles which just thrilled me. I am not actually registered to run a 10k race at the end of this but I needed something to work towards or I would happily get off the treadmill at 2 miles every time. Dave is running a half marathon (his second ever) in Moab, UT in March and I glad that this time the boys and I will be at the finish line to cheer him on. I am proud of him and all the races he's finished and all the races he is still to run. He's got some motivation and he is the one who keeps me going. Love you, Babe! We're planning on heading to Denver in May so Dave can run his first full Marathon and I will be running my first half which terrifies me in this moment! I just have to look onto t...

Running Diary part 3

Somewhere a long the road I lost all motivation. I have probably ran once in the past 3 months. Dave and I decided we want to do the 5k Sweetheart run in February. I haven't run a 5k length in SO long. I feel like I'm starting from scratch which makes me made at myself for letting all the progress I had made go to waste. I haven't felt well the past week and I've been terribly tired regardless of the amount of sleep I get. I have had hip and knee pain which has kept me off the treadmill. Well, today I had had enough of feeling depressed and down about my physical and emotional state. I got on the treadmill in our bedroom which isn't much warmer then it is outside. One mile! that's all I could do. My lunges hurt and I felt like I was gasping for air but the air so chilled I felt like I was running outside which I am clearly not accustomed to. If I am going to run the Sweetheart run I have to be able to handle the cold air. Suggestions?

2011

I don't usually get into the New Years Resolution stuff but this year I feel like I HAVE to start it out right. I can think of so many things I want to change and so to start off my list I want to: >get back into Running. I need register for some races! >journal regularly (for spiritual reasons) >spend more regular time with my Savior so that my relationship with HIM out weighs any trial I face That's a start . . .

Running Diary Part 2

The Children With Hope 5k was my first race and so far it's my only. Dave and I have had a difficult time finding races that we can do. The next on our list is the Jingle Bell run in Dec. which ought to be a cold one. I have had a tough time running lately. Since my 5k I have only run another 5k distance once. I can't seem to get past 2 miles. Part of my problem is that I haven't gotten a good chance top run outside which we help me push farther. The treadmill allows me to hit the stop button with little thought. On the side, I have been doing a strength training workout video that's been great. It works everything and is a killer! I upped my weights from 3 to 5 pounds today which made me feel good about my progress. I can feel a difference in my arms and legs but I have to steer clear of the scale because I am gaining weight do to the muscle. It's tough to see the number rise but I know that muscle is a good thing and something I have never put much time into in my...

Running Diary Part1

So, I've been running regularly for probably under two months. Since we have a treadmill I felt like it was the easiest way to exercise while having kids. I knew I wouldn't get my money's worth out of a membership to a gym. Dave has become quite the runner and in the past year he's ran a few 5ks, a half marathon and a triathlon. He had never been interested in running but once he got to a certain point he realized he could run races. It was merely for exercise but turned into a lot more. So, i started running with Dave as my inspiration since I had always felt the same towards running. Our church supports an orphanage in Kenya and today they held their annual 5k/10k walk-a-thon. I knew I would at least walk it to support the cause but about two weeks ago I realised how close I was to being able to run it. I was running 2 miles at the time so with Dave's strong encouragement I started to push myself a bit more with the motivation to run the 5k instead of walk it. As ...
