A lesson on fishing



Imagine being a fishermen whose nets keep coming in empty and whose fishing line never gets tug. It seems that if you've not focused enough you might eventually find yourself not casting the net out or forgetting to use bait or realize your hook isn't even in the water anymore. Fruitless fishing gets discouraging.

The term "fishers of men" is common in the church world. We all get it and have said it. There are many ideas on how to "fish" for people. There are many books written on the topic. However, this morning I got a lesson on fishing that made more sense then any other and seemed the most simple and in all honesty, seems easier then many other methods.

Another thing we've seen used in the church world are acronyms. And in an acronym is where this simple lesson comes in. Let me share it with you.

B is for "Begin with prayer." Let us never forget the power in prayer. Prayer for those whom we are "fishing" for.

L is for "Listen to them." It makes a huge impact when we stop talking and just listen to their story and their hearts.

E is for "Eat with them." We all know that it doesn't matter what culture you are in, food brings people together.

S is for "Serve them." Find ways to show love through helping make their lives easier. Mowing a lawn, babysitting, making a meal etc.

S (#2) is for "Share your story." Let them know where you've come from and what's brought you to this place in life and in this you share HIS story since its interwoven in your own story.

This is a simple little outline on what it means to "fish for men." Be Jesus to others by doing those things that he did for others. He prayed, he listened, ate meals with them, served and shared his our heart. He was the ultimate "Fisher of men."

BOY!! Liam is a big brother to a beautiful baby boy! Gabriel Asher was born at 8:55 PM on March 16th. He weighed 9lbs. 2.9oz and was 21 inches long. We were at church for a meeting with all the youth workers and after the meeting I (Kami) was having more intense contractions and just not feeling right. A mother of a couple of our high school girls offered to take me home with them and let me rest at their house while Dave stayed at church to run our Sunday night youth group. It wasn't long after arriving at their house that my water broke. I called for Dave to come pick me up and we headed to the hospital. A mother of 3 boys

I have to be honest in hopes that it will encourage you to pray for me. I now have a 5yo, 4yo and 2yo. I am over whelmed and had my first major break down today. I say "major" because I have actually had many breakdowns but this was the first with tears I just couldn't control. This is WAY harder then I thought it would be. Or maybe it's just that the "difficult things" I tried to prepare myself for aren't very tough at all. There are many things that I just wasn't prepared for and it's knocking me off my feet. The boys are acting like brothers. Yes, this sounds like a good thing. The issue? That means they fight. . . there's screaming, scratching, pushing and biting involved. It's not all the time but I have to watch them so things don't get out of hand. I have been so tired. Stinky, Uncontrollable Moments

The boys and I were going to join Dave at Quest (middle school camp) in Olympia this weekend. Dave is the Quest director and although he'd be working and busy we were excited to be able to go and have a weekend away. So, why am I now sitting on my couch watching Ice Age with my family on Friday night instead of hanging out with middle schoolers at camp? Let me share the insane story with you. . .           We hit the road in our van and while driving over White Pass we had car trouble. . . bad enough that we couldn't drive the van any farther.           In the rain, Dave worked and worked to try and fix the belt that partially tore and then came off it's track.
